The Antichrist Our world is looking for leadership whether good or bad. On the one hand we think of a Churchill, Reagan or Bush. On the other we have Hitler, Stalin or Hussein. One day there will come on a the world scene an evil leader who will have amaze world. He will lead nations and command a mighty empire. He will influence world economy. He will support religion. He will fight major wars and persecute Israel and the church. During the end times their will be an unholy trinity that will influence and lead the world. Their purpose will not be to make the world a better place for all but to make it a better place for them. They will lead the world against the Lord of glory. The time that they rule in is called the Great Tribulation. Much of the events of that time will be the result of what they do. They will show the world what happens when it is run by man, unrestrained by the Spirit of God. The False Prophet The Antichrist will lead the world against the Lord and His people. He will be accompanied by the False Prophet. The False Prophet will attempt to get the whole world to worship the Antichrist. He will work miracles and make the world wear the “mark of the beast.” Satan Satan himself, the dragon, will empower these two. They will carry out his plans and purposes. He will bring the world against the Lord. He was once Lucifer, the anointed cherub. He was highly exalted in God’s Kingdom (Ez. 28) until iniquity was found in him. He attempted to exalt himself above God. Isaiah 14:12-15 12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. Now it is the purpose the purpose of Satan to go against God and to do all he can to tear down what God is building up. His design is to counterfeit the plans, purposes and program of God. He is subtle and deceptive. His program is anti-God and antichrist. He will attempt to gain the worship of the world through the Antichrist. Eventually Jesus will return to defeat Satan and to bind him up casting him into the bottomless pit. The Spirit of Antichrist The spirit of Antichrist is real and active even now (and always has been). 1 John 2:18 18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 1 John 2:22 22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 1 John 4:3 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 2 John 7 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Who Is The Antichrist? 1. Titles   1.         The little horn (Dan. 7:8) 2.         King of Fierce Countenance (Dan. 8:23) 3.         Desolater or Defiler (Dan. 9:27) 4.         Willful King (Dan. 11:36) 5.         Man of Sin or Lawlessness (2 Thess. 2:3) 6.        Son of Perdition or Destruction (2 Thess. 2:3) 7.         Antichrist (1 Jn. 2:18, 22; 2 Jn. 2:7) 8.        The Beast (Rev. 13:1-9; 17:3, 8) 2. He is a person of political resource and power Revelation 13:1-2 1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads (Empires that have ruled over Israel) and ten horns (ten nations of the revised Roman empire), and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard (Greek), his feet were like the feet of a bear (Medo-Persian), and his mouth like the mouth of a lion (Babylon). The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. Daniel 7:23-25 23 “Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast shall be A fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all other kingdoms, And shall devour the whole earth, Trample it and break it in pieces. 24 The ten horns are ten kings Who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, And shall subdue three kings (restoring the Greek). 25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time (Great Tribulation).   Revelation 17:10-14 10 "There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. 11 "And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth (the Antichrist’s empire), and is of the seven (the revised Roman), and is going to perdition. 12 "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 "These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast (the end time empire of the Antichrist is the ten nations being led by the Antichrist). 14 "These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."   Daniel 8:25 25 “Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without human means. Daniel 11:21 ...but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue.   3. He will cause the world to oppose Christ Daniel 9:27 (This is when the Antichrist will be revealed) 27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Revelation 13:3-7 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” 5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. Revelation 6:9 9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.   Revelation 20:4 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. He meets his doom as he attempts to overthrow Christ Revelation 19:11-21 11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. 19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. Daniel 2:44-45 44 And in the days of these kings (the end time Beast Empire made up of ten nations ruled over by the Antichrist) that is led by the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.   Joel 3:9-12 9 Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, Let all the men of war draw near, Let them come up. 10 Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, 'I am strong.' " 11 Assemble and come, all you nations, And gather together all around. Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD. 12 "Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!
